Last night was rough. I was trying to get Spencer to point to a school bus in his book and he wouldn't. I sank my heels in and tried to push it. It didn't work, he just got more and more upset. When I started to get frustrated and the thought of spanking him for not cooperating crosses my mind, I set him off my lap and walked away. Well Mike tried to pick up where I left off - I had to go feed Rachel. Spencer was already frustrated and Mike just kept getting more and more so. I kept my mouth shut, thinking that Mike wasn't (and wouldn't) hurt him so let them figure it out. When I heard Mike almost start cussing at Spencer I did intervene and say something. They went on for a short time more and apparently Spencer wouldn't even look at the book, much less the bus or whatever. Mike decided to let it go (which was IMO for the best at that time) and everyone lost. Boo!!
I did go back a minute or two later, put Spencer on my lap and re-read the same book (not asking him to point) so that he would not be scared of it or not want to be read to. He was fine. Later in the evening I did get him to point to a banana in another book. I don't know what to do to get him to point. Honestly, I couldn't care less if he "points" or not. But I do want him to show me that he recognizes things by their names in books, and to show me something that he wants that is out of reach, and, most importantly, to point to something to ask me what it is. He just doesn't seem curious about language at all. Right now he seems concerned with moving in different ways (walking sideways, on tip-toes, skipping, running, waddling, etc.) and putting things back together and away (shoes in drawers, lids on markers, etc.). He did try to color a little with me this morning w/o me telling him too. And he tried to give Rachel a kiss on the lips :o).
Oh and Rachel was up at 3AM for no apparent reason. Double Boo!!! Then she was up bright and early at 6 for start of day. Triple boo!!! That's two nights in a row she's woken. It took her longer to get back to sleep last night. She was on her back when I went to get her, so I turned her over and she cried almost playfully for awhile. I ended up sleeping on the chair. It's harder to tune her out and just listen for a "problem" cry in bed because the monitor is right next to my head and it's really jarring everytime she makes a noise. Gotta run, she's up again :oP.
