WWWHHHHEEEEWWWWW!!!!!!! Letting out huge breathe. This morning was exactly what I needed. A professional telling me my child was fine. The only evaluation item that he didn't demonstrate in her presence was when she asked him to give a drink to a teddy bear from a cup. He tried to drink from the cup himself. However, a minute later, when she left the room to go get another toy, I demonstrated it again and he did it. Of course, not in her presence, so she didn't get to mark it on her sheet, but that's not the point. HE DID IT!!! Oh my God!! He really is fine. Just not talking. And he will be talking soon. Just one of those kids who doesn't talk till they are ___. Maybe he will be the next Einstein ;o).
She told us to do a quick exercise running our hand down his cheeks to massage a muscle that it looks like he's not using. He kinda keeps the sides of his mouth pulled back which makes it difficult for him to pucker up or make o sounds.
Also, to mimic his babbling and respond to his jabbering.
Also, to try to get him to imitate at least the first letter of the name of something before giving it to him. For instance, "c-c-c-c-car", and she said once he starts doing that to gradually expect him to say it before giving him an object.
Also, to give him sour things to work on the puckering up thing.
Also, to get a whistle and let him practice whistling cause the mouth shape is good. Oh, he did not like the high pitched sound of the whistle, though. Probably reminded him of his sister screaming :oP.
I guess they'll be calling in a week or so to schedule us in for therapy and we can go from there.
Jennifer from EI will be here tomorrow. I'm not really looking forward to that, but we'll see how it goes.
