Okay day. Spencer was obnoxious during the playgroup. I had to put him down for a nap in the middle of it, while everyone else stayed and played. It was good to chat with the other moms though. Then Spencer was in a mood the rest of the day. He was cranky and started tantruming almost everytime I said no. He pooped in the playroom during the 5 minutes I left him without a diaper. Maybe he's ready for a potty.
The big stuff though. He was getting upset this morning, and I finally looked at him and said, "Look Spencer, you need to start communicating more. You can sign or talk, but either way you have to tell me what you want." I swear it was one of those AHA moments that I used to have with students. I then said, "Spencer what do you want?" He concentrated and said "mom". So I gave him a huge hug and we read a book. Until the garbage men came and they were more interesting ;o).
Then when we were in Rachel's room, he was trying to reach for something while I was holding him. I told him to point and show me what he wanted. He did (almost). He extended his arm and hand, though not his actual finger.
Next, he went into the bathroom and got his toothpaste. He was putting it to his mouth making a grrrr sound. I figured out quickly that he wanted me to brush his teeth (he has a little motorized toothbrush). I held it on the place where his tooth is coming in, and he seemed happy.
Finally, he pointed to the god-damned M&M's. His finger wasn't isolated, but it was out and his arm was up. Rockin! He wouldn't do it again later in the day, but we can add that to the list of things he wouldn't do later in the day.
Also, I was asking him body parts, and he did belly button and head and feet, as usual, but wouldn't do more, also as usual. I know he knows them. We do them everyday, and he's not dumb, I know he knows where his nose is. So I pretended like I was going to get his nose (saying that exact thing) but not really putting my hand specifically toward his nose. He blocked his nose. LIttle brat!!! Then I gave him my hand and he put my hand on his ears, nose, eyes, mouth, and knees. Little scamp. Why won't he do it himself????? He's so hard to figure out.
Rachel was off today. She pooped 3 times last night. Each time was right after we laid her down, so she slept in it and it dried on her butt. Luckily I still have some magic butt cream from Doc Joe that I was able to put on her so didn't get a rash. I lathered her up with cream tonight even though she pooped right before bed. Apparently that doesn't mean anything anymore. Poor baby. I felt awful for her. Luckily, her butt is fine, thanks to the magic cream and the triple paste.
She cried to go down in the morning and didn't sleep long (maybe her butt hurt?), but then took a three hour nap mid-day followed by another 45 minute jobber in the evening.
Mike left work a little early and seemed to be in a reasonably good mood.
Spencer was totally into mischief every chance he got. Right now he's in his crib, kicking it and singing songs. Trying to perfect it, like he did with bye-bye. All-through-the-day. He's got the fourth syllable now, and really working on it.
I'm going to go check, it sounds like he's break the crib.
