Spencer did so, so, so, so well. I know that he's a great kid, but he far exceeded even my biggest hopes for how the evening should go. Only once out of the entire 2.5 hours that he was in the full tux in mid 80s/high humidity weather did he complain. Only once! And that was for about 30 seconds. He never even got to the point of whining. Wow! What a kid!
So we left at 4, grabbed some BK and hit the road. It stormed very badly on the way there. Luckily when we arrived it was clear and remained clear the rest of the evening (it was an outdoor wedding). We got Spencer dressed without a hitch. He even seemed excited about the snazzy outfit. Note that he screamed when I tried to put the exact same outfit on him two days ago. We head outside for pics and he well behaved, running around, exploring a new place, etc.
He stood happily and even smiled for pictures. It's now an hour before the wedding and I thought pics would take that whole hour, but they took about 5 minutes. Oops. No worries though, Spencer is happy just exploring the area and being cute in his tux.
Time for the ceremony and he starts to get a little antsy. I thought, okay, this is it, he's been great, but everyone has their limit. Wrong. He got over it and did great. Mike sat in the second row and held out two brand new matchbox cars. Once Spencer saw them, he was right down the aisle with no hassle and everyone thought it was the cutest thing. He didn't hold the pillow, but if that was the worse case scenario, we got over very light. So we open the cars and give them to Spencer to play with. One was a fire truck. It took Spencer all of 30 seconds to start with the fire engine siren noises, something that Mike and I had not anticipated. So I took Spencer back behind the seats and let him continue to explore and run around. There were several other kids doing the same thing lol.
After the ceremony, he needs to walk back up the aisle. He bulked tiny little bit and I had to walk him about halfway. I made a funny remark about at least he made it the other direction. Then Spencer took off to walk the rest of the way alone, followed by turning around and applauding himself. Much to the delight of everyone in attendance.
So after that, I asked the photog if he would be needed for more pics
******Strangest thing just happened. All of a sudden Spencer just started screaming, so I go running upstairs, scoop him up and ask what's wrong. The room smells like poop, so I immediately put him on the changing table, but no poop. So I sit in the chair holding him and he's screaming. Mike takes him for a minute but that doesn't help so he passes him back to me. Spencer calmed down enough to start using words and it sounds like down. As I've written many times before, his pronunciation is poor, so I thought I'd heard incorrectly. Nope he's saying down and go. So I put him down and he climbs into bed, covers himself up and tells us to go. We walk out and turn off the light, completely dumbfounded. A second later he starts screaming again (well, he'd never truly stopped, but he had calmed and now was starting up again). I went in and walked over to him. He looked at me, rolled away and said bye. So I left. WTF???*******
Anyway, as I was saying...
I asked the photog if he was needed for more pics. She says yes. An hour goes by. Finally we get our pics with the bride and groom and the whole party. Why we couldn't have been done first, seeing as we had a small child and no one else had any reason why time was of the essence for them, I don't know, but whatever. He plays with some other kids. Drinks some water, munches on grahams, get's dirty again and overall has a blast. Time for pics, we get him cleaned up and he poses and is adorable.
Off to the reception. Again, he runs around like a maniac having a blast. Keeping Mike and I on our toes for sure, but never acting even the least bit toddlerish. We were there for about an hour. We didn't even arrive there until after his usual bedtime.
Finally, we said our goodbyes and headed for home. Spencer fell asleep in the car. He was tuckered! Oh yeah, and did I mention that he didn't take a nap today?
He's not the only one that's tuckered. I'm off to bed.
