Another GREAT DAY!!! And let me just tell you why...
Spencer is the coolest, cutest kid ever. Tied with Rachel, of course. She's pretty awesome too.
Rachel took yet another step today by accident. That's two yesterday and one today. She's also proven that she does not feel the need to listen when mommy is saying something that she doesn't want to hear. With Spencer I was totally on top of that kind of stuff (not letting him get away with it) and with her, I'm just laughing and smiling. Gotta stop that on my part! I know I say it all the time, but she is getting cuter by the minute. She just wants to dance and move all the time and laugh. I have never in my life seen anything as adorable as her dancing. She sits with her little toy ipod, pushes the button and swivels her upper body from side to side with her arms half up in front of her. I've got to get some video, seriously, it's the cutest thing ever. She 'gives 5' now and bangs her head into mine to give me a kiss. She's always smiling. And always asking for juice too.
We went to lunch with the club and it was nice. Spencer threw a tantrum, but everyone seemed to be understanding of it, not judgmental. I got to talk with another mom that I get along well with, that was good. She is someone I could see becoming good friends with. Her little girl and Spencer seem to go well together and she has a younger daughter that is very close to Rachel's age as well.
The pizza place that we met at had a very crappy little arcade area, but of course Spencer was entranced. So we went in. While he was playing and Rachel was bugging to get down another little boy that was in our group came in. I don't really know him, never have interacted with him, but I get along with his mom pretty well. I asked him if his name was ... He didn't reply. I asked him how old he was. He didn't reply. I asked him if his birthday was coming up - I know that it's in a couple of days. He didn't reply. Sound familiar? Yep, here is another kid Spencer's age that completely froze and acted as if I, a stranger in his eyes, didn't exist as I was speaking with him. In that moment, the last of my worries faded away. It felt really, really, really, really, really good. I never thought that being ignored would ever feel like that :oP.
As if that's not good enough, there's more. We went to Michael's and I found (on the dollar rack even) a calendar of classic cars. AND they had a mini version too. I brought it home and changed all of Spencer's puppy pics on his walls to classic cars pics. [I bought plain 12x12 frames for his walls thinking that i could cheaply change the look of the room by just taking the pics from a calendar and putting them in. It's been puppies since he was born.] And I had the smaller version to give to him so that he didn't try to take the framed ones off the wall to look at. He was so excited when he walked in and saw the new pics. I thought it might take him awhile to notice (an hour? a day?). Nope, about half a second lol.
Which leads me to tonight. Something even better than all the rest. Even better than being ignored. I don't even understand how these two things can happen on the same day, but they have. I went upstairs to get something about a half hour ago. I went to check on Spencer and as I got to the door I smelled lotion. Very strong smell of lotion. Uh-oh. I open the door to find Spencer covered in lotion. Hair, face, mouth, pjs, feet, Puppy, his comforter, etc. So I get the bath ready, which he is excited about. I debate internally whether to act like the bath is punishment - don't want him to think of bathing as punishment, but don't want him to think he is being rewarded for lotioning up the entire room either. I went with neutral, but made him lay back for hair rinsing, which he doesn't like to do - explaining that is was because there was so much lotion in his hair, shouldn't do that again, blah, blah, blah. Get him dried off and into clean pjs (no, you are going to wear the dinosaur pjs, you already chose one set of pjs tonight but you got them messy, so now mommy chooses). Put him into bed. Gather up the old puppy pics that were in the trash, but are now strewn across the floor. Spencer says from bed behind me, "Hi Mommy". I reply with a slightly exasperated "Hi, Spencer". Then, here's the bestest part ever, "I love you Mommy". Clear as a bell, perfect pronunciation with a beautiful smile on his face.
Seriously what more could a mom ask for?
