Time of Run:  morning
Distance:  5k
Time Running:  42ish?
Location/Weather/Temp:  treadmill

Notes: okay run, not great.  Better than nothing and glad to be feeling well enough to get going again.  Knees hurt, probably from the treadmill.  Much prefer outside runs.  Might just brave the cold next time.

On a related note, I think I need to start pushing again.  Running for distance on the long runs is fine, but it's time to run for time on the short runs and work for less walk breaks.  I was running 28 straight at 5 and now I'm running 10 at 5.2, but each subsequent run is shorter.  So pushing on one of the two weekday short runs will be the next order of business.
Also as it's the first of the year it's time to set some yearly goals.  I think I'd like to set a goal of *at least* 500 miles this year.  That works out to roughly 10 miles a week, or broken down farther 2.5, 2.5, 5 mile as the weekly minimums.  Very doable.  Very realistic.  I'm already 3 miles in, only 497 to go.  Realistically, I think I'd like to surpass that goal by a lot, so I'll revise it as time goes by.  For now though, I'm setting a goal that allows for days/weeks off for sickness, injury, vacations, etc.  I don't want to have such a lofty goal that I am defeated the first time I have a chest cold.

So that's the state of things today.  I'm still working on losing a bit more weight.  I creeped up a bit over the holiday, but a little diligence and a few less m&m indulgences should take care of that.  And if I remain diligent maybe I can take a few more off as well.  Working out in the morning is the absolute best weapon I have in my arsenal to that end.  It's harder to fit into the schedule, but it's a bazillion times easier to make healthy, moderate eating choices when I work out in the morning.  It's not conscious thought, it just feels natural when I start the day with a good workout.
