Spencer is doing fantastic all of a sudden. Yesterday he was saying 'hi' to Rachel without prompting, he said hi to Mike the other night without prompting, he said hi and bye to the (new) girl at gym's kid's club today (again without prompting). This morning I put him back in bed - I'm trying to convince him to get up later than 6 - he threw a hissy fit because he wanted cheese, but then he started calling 'mommy, mommy', which he has NEVER done before. He said, "no want milk, want juice" last night. He picked a snack today out of the bowl he and Rachel were sharing and said "that one Spencer's". Uhhh, what else, he's ask to be read to in the chair last night (using the word chair for the first time I think). He wanted to color in our coloring workbook last night. It's like another light switch has been flipped and he jumped forward a few milestones again. It's amazing everytime this happens. Fascinating to watch. I think he's realized that these 'word' things can let him demand things. He's definitely asserting himself more, telling me no to anything he doesn't feel like doing. Luckily the 1-2-3 thing is working so far to keep that in check. Today at a Mel's house, I asked him if he wanted apple pie and he repeated apple pie over and over, over accentuating with his lips and finally getting it just right. I was so happy to see him moving his lips like that.
Rachel is so whiny. She seems to be fine and then will completely flip out about something silly. At the gym, we were leaving and I was putting Spencer's shoes on him. She was happy and ready to go so she went toward the door. There is a half door there to keep kids in, and it swung back to almost closed. She started freaking out. There is no door frame or anything, so she could see me very clearly she was looking at me the whole time. Nothing between us except half a door that was half closed. She started balling, and was in complete hysterics in a matter of moments. Then she was happy as could be again a few seconds later. I gave her some crackers in the car and she was much better after that. I guess she was just hungry, but my goodness, she's a pistol. And she's not listening at all when I tell her 'no'. I guess we'll have to start slapping her little hands soon (lightly of course) and maybe even time outs.
