I've decided to run a half marathon in the spring. Welcome to my training journal.
A little history:
In February 2009, I decided to final lose the 100-110 extra pounds I was carrying around. By April, I'd lost enough that I decided to try running as exercise, though I'd tried before and failed (even in high school when I was still lean and fit). I found the Couch to 5K plan and I was off. I did my first 5K race on May 25th. I pushed both my mind and body too hard, too fast and burned out quickly. In late summer, I picked up where I'd left off, but at a much slower pace, repeating weeks of the c25k schedule until I was ready to move on. By mid October I'd built enough stamina to run a full 5k without walking breaks or being worn out afterwards. I'd gone from having to ignore the way my body felt when I ran to looking forward to the way my body felt when I ran. Finally beginning to understand that running isn't about getting in X miles a day, but about letting your body do what it's meant to do. In late October, I decided to set a goal to run a half Marathon in spring of 2010. My goal is simply to go the 13 miles on race day and be smiling when I cross the finish line.
