My little man is three. And he had a great birthday. And he understood it was his big day and is now three. So double bonus lol. I didn't get into the whole concept of a birthday, but just that it was a special day and he's now three instead of two. Also, he finally understood the concept of 'later' and more specifically 'tomorrow' because of the birthday activities.
I told him on Friday that we'd be going to go see the trains on on Sat. He, of course, immediately went to get his shoes and didn't understand what tomorrow meant. After many hugs and soft spoken explanations he finally seemed to catch on. He woke up early Sat morning clearly excited and seeing the trains was one of the first things out of his mouth.
So we had breakfast (toast with grape jelly - a favorite), bathtime with lots of splashing, put on one of his favorite shirts and headed out the door. We went to see a huge model train layout at a local place, then had pizza in the cafe while we watched the trains go by. After that we went to Toys R Us to spend his birthday money (he'd gotten two cards with $10 each and a $3 gift card from TRU). It didn't take long to gravitate to the Matchbox aisle, where he absolutely fell in love with a car carrier truck. He picked it up and would not let it go. It was too big and awkward for him to carry, but he would not let go. He wouldn't let me help him and insisted that we go to the checkout asap. I did manage to get him down the doll aisle because I saw the cutest doll with puppies on it that Rachel loved too. It's hard to find pink puppy stuff, but Rachel loves both so we got it too. He stared at it the whole car ride home and demanded it be opened as soon we got in the door. In a cute way though, he was just excited.
Rachel went down for a nap, and Spencer went to his room for some quiet time with his new truck and cars. He was absolutely in heaven. Awhile later, Melanie and family came over with cookies and a gift for Spencer. They got him a set of Lego's that he will love. He also opened our presents to him. An Aquadoodle, the game Connect Four, and a five pack of Matchbox emergency vehicles. Then he played with the girls for a bit before we headed out to dinner. We went to Red Robin because he likes their grilled cheese and we had a nice meal. We had to wait, but both kids were super well behaved and did great during the meal too. At the end, the servers sang Happy Birthday to him and gave him a sundae. He loved both. We had planned to got the Barnes and Noble to play with the train table afterwards, but it was late so we opted to just come home. He was exhausted and put himself to bed before I could even finish getting Rachel changed and in her crib lol. I made sure he had his truck and told him he could keep the lights on for awhile if he wanted. I checked on him again at 8 and he was asleep on the floor. He really needs a bigger bed lol. That is his other birthday present, I just haven't been able to get it yet. We were snowed in this week. Soon though.
Oh well that's it. We've got to go take care of stuff today. We finally got the van back - 3 days turned into 3.5 weeks - so today we are going to get new tires put on it. Of course, it's not that simple, as nothing ever can be, but this involves the ILs (which I tried to avoid, but mike wouldn't listen to me) to it's going to be 20 times more of a pita than it's worth. Oh well, I needed new tires and we are going to Memphis this weekend so the timing is good at least. I will be sooooooooo glad to have my van back. I hate putting the kids in their carseats in a regular car, the sliding van doors are absolutely wonderful lol.
